Reign Stumble in Regular Season Finale

A week after clinching the Division 5 Championship the Reign let the opportunity to host their first round playoff game slip away as they fell to the Indy Crash 28-7.

The Reign (3-5) started strong, scoring on their first possession. After some back and forth play by two strong defenses the Crash (5-3) capitalized on Reign turnovers and took a 20-7 lead into halftime. A final touchdown in the second half and a lock-down defense sealed the victory for the Crash.

The bright spot of the offensive attack was Jacki Clark who rushed for 35 yards and the Reign's only touchdown of the contest. Clark also hauled in 3 receptions for 14 yards. Clark made her presence felt on special teams as well with a 73 yard punt out of her own end zone. The Reign defense provided some opportunities for a turnaround with interceptions by Amanda Coressel, Toya Pettaway and Ella Dunn. Anneliese Kolan led the team with 7 tackles.

The Reign and Crash will meet again this Saturday in the first round of the WFA playoffs in Indianapolis. This is the first trip to the playoffs for the Reign and a return to the playoffs for the Crash, where they lost to the Boston Militia in the National Conference Championship in 2011.
