Reign Meet Crash in Regular Season Finale!

In 2003 Thee Toledo Reign was formed and joined the Women’s Professional Football League.  The Reign hoped to continue the tradition of women’s football in Toledo put in place by the 7-time World Champion Toledo Troopers in the 1970’s.  10 years later the Reign have captured their first division championship as members of the WFA Division 5.  Despite the accomplishment the Reign still has work to do in their regular season finale as they welcome the Indy Crash to Gallagher Stadium.

The Reign (3-4) are coming off back-to-back division victories including a division-clinching 32-22 victory last week against the Derby City Dynamite.  The Reign are battle-tested after a three game non-divisional stretch against opponents with a combined record of 19-3 and the lessons learned showed in their back-to-back victories.  Quarterback Kasey Clark is currently second in the WFA with a 135.0 passer rating and wide receiver Amanda Coressel is second in the WFA with 33 receptions.  Coressel is also seventh in receiving yards with 452 on the season.  Defensively the duo of Marabeth Lewis and Brittney Rupert are tied for fifth in the WFA with 75 ½ tackles each.  Looking to spoil the homecoming for the Reign will be the Indy Crash.

The Crash (4-3) are traveling to Toledo after their own season-defining victory over the West Michigan Mayhem 34-7 at home.  This victory allowed the Crash to leapfrog the Mayhem for the Wild Card playoff spot for Division 6.  The Crash are a Chicago Force victory over the Mayhem this weekend away from a return trip to the WFA playoffs.  The Crash defeated the Reign last season 34-0 to start the Reign’s season-ending 3-game losing streak in 2011 dashing their playoff hopes.

There will be excitement in the air as Thee Toledo Reign returns to Gallagher Stadium this weekend to celebrate their first ever trip to the WFA playoffs.  There is still work to be done – if the Reign defeat the Indy Crash this weekend, next week’s playoff game will be a HOME game!  We are asking ALL our supporters, former players, and anyone who has always wanted to see a game but couldn’t come out to Gallagher Stadium and support your Division 5 champions!  Gates open at 6pm, kickoff is at 7pm, tickets are $6 at the door with kids 5 and under FREE!  If you live in the Toledo area come out and enjoy a great matchup between longtime rivals on a mild June evening.  If you don’t live in the Toledo area you can always follow the highlights on our Twitter feed - @ToledoReignWFA.  You can also listen to the game LIVE on DZ-Radio.com starting around 6:30pm!
