Mistakes Stop Reign in Kalamazoo

The Reign hit the road for the first time in the 2012 season this past Saturday, and while they brought a vastly improved team to Kalamazoo, untimely turnovers led to a 41-13 defeat to the West Michigan Mayhem.

The Reign (1-2) brought a ground attack to Kalamazoo that kept the ball on the move totaling 229 total rushing yards. Brianna “Bug” Patman led the way with 101 yards and a touchdown. Defensively Brittney “Lil' B” Rupert led the way with 18 tackles and 1 sack. Despite their success on the ground, three costly interceptions off tipped passes undid the Reign's momentum.

The Mayhem (3-0) stayed undefeated in their series with the Reign, though this time was a tougher test than recent years. Telly Robinson continued to show why she's a dominant force on the ground, racking up 248 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Jennifer Plummer anchored the defense with 25 tackles.

The Reign have a bye week May 5th with a matchup with the Pittsburgh Passion on May 12th. The Mayhem will head to Detroit next week in a battle of the unbeatens with the 3-0 Detroit Dark Angels.
