Reign Falls in First Round

Thee Toledo Reign fought valiantly in their first ever playoff game but couldn't come up with the big plays late as they fell to the Indy Crash 52-35.

The Reign earned a playoff berth for the first time in their 10 year history and put an amazing effort out on the field. One week after losing to the Indy Crash in the regular season finale the Reign posted their highest point total since their season opening 68-14 victory over the Cincinnati Sizzle. Five times the Reign closed the gap to three points but failed fourth down conversions late in the fourth quarter allowed the game to slip out of reach.

The Reign shuffled up their personnel to throw a new game plan at the Crash for the playoffs, the most significant being a change at quarterback. Keri Jo Billick started and played most of the game at quarterback and provided a huge spark for the Reign offense. Billick completed 13 passes for 291 yards and 4 touchdowns. First team All-American Amanda Coressel showed why she is one of the most dangerous players in the WFA, hauling in 5 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Stephanie Lieto added 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns to the offensive attack.

Coressel proved that her talents aren't confined to offensive production, picking off two Crash passes and taking one back for a Reign score.  Second team All-American Marabeth Lewis helped slow the Crash offense with 9 ½ tackles to lead the Reign.  The Reign also had eight tackles for loss, recovered three fumbles and deflected seven Crash passes.

The Indy Crash move on to the second round of the playoffs where they will meet the undefeated Chicago Force. The Reign will turn their attention to 2013, expanding on their success and preparing to defend their division championship. Thanks to all our fans and supporters and we hope to see you all again next season!
