Reign Run Over In Pittsburgh

Thee Toledo Reign knew everything had to go right this past weekend in order to run with the Pittsburgh Passion.  The Reign held their own for much of the first quarter, but the Passion took charge and showed why they are an elite team in the WFA as they downed the Reign 71-14 in Pittsburgh.

The Passion (4-0) were led by their quarterback Lisa Horton, who proved she is a formidable threat to any defense.  Horton threw for 232 yards on 11 for 18 passing and four touchdowns.  Fielding a balanced attack six Passion players found the end zone, with four of them finding paydirt twice.

The Reign (1-3) fought for all four quarters and put 14 points on the scoreboard, matching the Columbus Comets’ point total against the Passion defense, second only to the DC Divas’ 34 points in Week 1.  Jacki Clark delivered a 57 yard pass to Amanda Coressel for the Reign’s first score and Stephanie Lieto broke loose for a 43 yard scoring run late in the 4th quarter.  The Reign defense was led by Coressel and Marabeth Lewis with 8 tackles each.

After enduring a stretch against teams with a combined 12-2 record the Reign will return to divisional play as they stay on the road for their first matchup with the Derby City Dynamite (2-2).  The Passion will continue their march toward a Division 3 title as they take on their crosstown rivals, the Pittsburgh Force (0-4).

Thee Toledo Reign is a member of the Women's Football Alliance, a full-contact American football league comprised of over 60 teams across the United States and Mexico. From Florida to Oregon and from New England to California, the WFA is the largest and fastest growing league in America.
