Heartbreak in Kentucky

Thee Toledo Reign’s playoff hopes took a significant hit as they dropped their first matchup with the Derby City Dynamite 20-18.
The Reign (1-4) held the lead for most of the game, including a 12-0 edge at halftime.  Derby City (3-2) surged ahead to take a 14-12 lead.  The Reign answered in the 4th quarter retaking the lead, but Derby City snatched the victory away with 47 seconds left in the game.  A long kick return wasn’t enough to get the Reign in range for the go-ahead field goal.
The Reign brought a balanced attack, with 128 yards rushing and 141 yards passing.  The offense was again anchored by Amanda Coressel, hauling in 10 catches for 124 yards along with 37 yards rushing and 84 kick return yards.  Quarterback Kasey Clark returned to action with a strong passing effort, completing 14 of 18 passes with one touchdown and one interception.  Linebacker Marabeth Lewis led the defense with 16 tackles, giving her a team-high 50 tackles on the season.
The Reign will fight for their playoff lives when WFA play resumes after the Memorial Day holiday with a return matchup with the Cincinnati Sizzle (0-5).  The first place Dynamite will look to clinch at least a .500 record in their inaugural season as they go out of division to take on the Memphis Dynasty (2-3).
