Reign Stumble in Loss to Dark Angels

Thee Toledo Reign hoped to duplicate last season's fast start and hit the road undefeated. Those hopes were dashed as the Reign fell 35-0 to the Detroit Dark Angels.

The Reign (1-1) were knocked on their heels with an opening onside kickoff recovered by the Dark Angels (2-0). The Reign held tough, trailing only 14-0 at halftime. Injuries and sustained Dark Angels drives took their toll as the Reign fell in the end.

The Reign managed to prevent the big play most of the evening, and that showed with seven players posting double digit tackles, led by Marabeth Lewis with 17. While the defense slowed the Dark Angels pressure, they couldn't come up with the statement play to turn the momentum. The Reign offense, unable to follow up on the near 500-yard outburst of Week 1, could not capitalize on their opportunities and only managed 63 total yards of offense.

The Reign hit the road this Saturday in another non-divisional matchup with the West Michigan Mayhem (2-0) in Kalamazoo, MI. The Mayhem are always a tough draw but the Reign has shown that they possess firepower of their own. You can catch live updates of our game on our Twitter feed (@ToledoReignWFA) – don't miss it!
