Reign End 2011 Season with close loss to Cincinnati

Thee Toledo Reign traveled to Cincinnati to close out the 2011 season on a positive note, hoping to turn around their bad luck after seeing their bid for the playoffs ended. Unfortunately they couldn't stop their recent slide as the Reign dropped their third straight contest, losing to the Cincinnati Sizzle 34-25.

The Reign battled back and forth with the Sizzle through all four quarters in a highly competitive matchup. Erica Lipstraw answered the Sizzle's first score by returning her second kickoff for a touchdown this season. Lipstraw would find the end zone three more times, catching touchdown passes from both Jacki Clark and Keri Jo Billick and running in her eight rushing touchdown of the season.

Defensively the Reign had five players with double-digit tackles, anchored by Brittney Rupert and Kristi Lillie (11 tackles, 4 tackles for loss each). Jaime Spangler forced two turnovers (one interception, one fumble recovery) bringing the Reign's season-long total to an amazing 24 turnovers (8 interceptions, 16 fumble recoveries).

The Reign and the Sizzle finish the 2011 season with matching 4-4 records to finish in 2nd place in their respective divisions. Though a disappointing finish after a strong start, the Reign can still classify the 2011 season as a success in many ways. The turnaround from doormat to competitor has been completed, and the Reign will look to 2012 to complete the full-circle transformation to playoff contender!
