Coming into the 2009 season, Thee Toledo Reign knew they would be facing the best the WFA Central Division had to offer from the very beginning. The Reign will face their next test this weekend as they hit the road for the first time in a rematch with the West Michigan Mayhem.
The Reign (0-2) are coming off a tough loss to a rebuilt Indiana Speed team and are looking to make a strong showing in their first game away from Gallagher Stadium. Though the first two games have been lopsided affairs, the Reign has gained valuable gameday experience and should be better prepared to face West Michigan in the rematch from the Reign’s opening night game.
The Mayhem (3-0) returns home after shutting out the Dayton Diamonds 56-0, posting three shutouts in a row to start the 2009 season. West Michigan is currently tied for first place in the Central Division of Region II and will match up with co-leader Indiana next week. Many are looking ahead to next week’s matchup for the lead in the Central Division, but the Mayhem cannot afford to be one of them by discounting this week’s game despite their 47-0 victory against the Reign in Week 2.
The Reign has had a difficult start to the season, but the history of this team will tell you that they will not stay down forever. Will this be the week that the Reign starts coming together and poses a threat to the division leader in their first game outside of Toledo in 2009?
